Lancôme’s New Year 2025

FOR LANCÔME 90TH ANNIVERSARY

To mark a momentous New Year, Lancôme has collaborated with Cai Guo-Qiang. In celebration of Lancome’s 90th anniversary, the artist has collaborated with his custom-built AI model, cAI™, to realize a uniquely striking work, which places the house’s iconic rose at its center. The artwork – Paris Rose, a painting created with colored gunpowder, appears on Lancôme’s New Year gifts and inspires the campaign’s exuberant depiction of the rose coming to life and breaking through the winter frost.

For this project, I led the development of the first-generation cAI™-powered robotic arm system and worked closely with the artist on the creation of the painting Paris Rose. Throughout the process, my team and I explored how AI could take on a more meaningful role in art—not just generating images, but developing a deeper understanding of its actions and playing a more active, intentional part in the painting process.
